Debra provides one-on-one nutrition therapy in a compassionate, supportive, and caring environment. She is experienced in working with individuals of all ages as well as couples, and families. Because we are not islands unto ourselves, the dynamics of our relationships also affect food choices as well as eating and activity behaviors. For this reason, it is sometimes advantageous to have significant others participate in the program. When addressing the needs of children and adolescents, family sessions are usually necessary.
Intitial Appointment
At your initial appointment (50 minutes) we will explore:
- your current eating habits and style
- diet and weight history
- food and weight beliefs
- current health status and medical history
- nutrition and health objectives
- nutritional education
- an appropriate treatment approach
- short- and/or long-term goal(s)
Follow-up Appointments
During your follow-up sessions, we will evaluate how the eating plan has been working for you. As you develop awareness of your eating behaviors, we will be able to fine-tune your plan so that it works for you in your daily life.
The follow-up sessions allow you to:
- Discuss current food and activity struggles
- Address food and nutrition concerns
- Provide continued health and nutrition education
- Encourage use of new coping strategies
- Explore food and weight beliefs
- Encourage self-acceptance and self-care skills
- Understand the importance of self-care skills
- Build confidence in your ability to make changes
- Discuss your eating and lifestyle changes and how to practice these changes until they become a natural way of living
- Fine-tune your current plan
Remember that you are not seeking a nutrition consultation to be on a short term “Diet”. We are working together to change your way of eating for a healthier lifestyle for the rest of your life.
Phone and Web Consultations
Phone and/or web sessions are available if you are unable to travel to the office for a consultation. This service is offered primarily if you live outside of a reasonable driving distance. For long standing clients who have a last minute emergency and cannot attend a scheduled session, a phone session may be requested at the scheduled time. For therapeutic reasons, Debra may decline a last minute request to change from an office visit to a phone session. It is the responsibility of the client to initiate the call for a phone session.
